Professor Rubia Cristina Wegner, from the Department of Economic Sciences at the Institute of Applied Social Sciences of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro, said in an interview with Xinhua that, in the face of global climate change and the ecological crisis, China's philosophy and practice in building an ecological civilization continue to offer wisdom and strength for environmental protection around the world.
In her view, Chinese concepts and Brazil's environmental goals are highly convergent. Wegner pointed out that Brazil and China, through the BRICS cooperation mechanism and climate financing from the New Development Bank, have already allocated US$40 billion to clean energy, environmental protection, and water security projects.
In addition, according to Wegner, Brazil and China have great potential for South-South cooperation. “To this end, it is essential to align public policies, especially in the areas of conservation, sustainable use, and technological innovation, creating bilateral platforms for the exchange of experiences and best practices.”
