Portugal has “every interest in permanent and strategic collaboration with China,” said Maria Manuel Branco, deputy director for Africa, Asia, and Oceania at AICEP, at a seminar on China-Portugal cooperation promoted by the Chinese Embassy in Portugal, reiterating that it is “a priority country in international relations.”

Maria Manuel Branco also signaled the intention to “continue to consolidate the economic and investment relationship that has been growing with strategic and committed partnerships in various sectors.” In addition, she pointed out that Portugal “has the capacity, together with China, to have common strategic areas such as renewable and green energy, digitization, electric mobility, health, and technological innovation.”

PSD deputy Hugo Carneiro, who is president of the Portugal-China Parliamentary Friendship Group, also spoke at this seminar, where he argued that, in addition to Chinese investment in Portugal, the country should also “encourage Portuguese companies to look at the Chinese market as an opportunity.”
