President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed the decree creating TV 3.0. The new signal, which offers better image, sound, and interactivity than the current one, can only work through converters. According to Brazil's Ministry of Communications, Chinese manufacturers are the main players interested in offering these products.

Hisense, a Chinese manufacturer, is the main player interested in entering this market, according to the ministry. The company is reportedly willing to have updated equipment ready as early as next year.

The government has called the measure an “evolution of broadcast TV.” The creation of TV 3.0 received an investment of R$ 7.5 million, according to the government. Initially, the service should only be available in major Brazilian cities. Subsequently, there will be a transition period, as was the case with digital TV, lasting 10 to 15 years.
