Cape Verde’s Minister of Internal Affairs recently told Lusa that Cape Verde wants to attract investment from China, which he described as “one of the main partners” in the country's development since independence. “At the moment, we already have a Chinese community in Cape Verde, essentially small and medium-sized entrepreneurs,” said Paulo Rocha in an interview with Lusa. The minister said that the next target is to “attract more and better [Chinese] investment in different sectors”, in order to diversify Cape Verde's economy, which is very dependent on tourism.

The sea is a priority and the government is “looking for partnerships” to implement the São Vicente Special Maritime Economic Zone, the study of which was carried out with the support of China, recalled Rocha, during a visit to Macau.

Paulo Rocha also said that it would be “perfectly realistic” for Cape Verde to want to attract tourists from China and other Asian countries and promote the country’s economic development.
