The experience in urban sustainability and smart cities brought by China through South-South cooperation is an example for Brazil, said Maria Fernanda Coelho, Director of Finance and Digital Credit for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises at the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) and president of the Brazilian Development Association (ABDE), during an interview with Xinhua, as part of her participation in the Brazil Energy Conference 2025.
In the interview, she highlighted the potential of Brazil's Northeast region as one of the pillars of the energy transition that can boost local industrialization.
Chinese companies such as State Grid, CGNPC, and Three Gorges Group are actively investing in the region to promote the rapid development of local clean energy.
Coelho highlighted China's experience in urban sustainability as an inspiration for Brazil, especially the so-called sponge cities, an urban planning model that seeks to manage water more sustainably, in addition to the natural disaster prevention system.
