Recently, academic institutions from China, Portugal, and Brazil created the Ocean Research Center between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries in Macau to collaborate on ocean research, including the impact of climate change and changes in ocean currents.
The center's goal is to “collaborate and share data, resources, and talent,” added José Santos-Victor, coordinator of the Robotics and Engineering Systems Laboratory. In addition to the laboratory associated with the Instituto Superior Técnico, the new center includes the University of São Paulo (USP), the University of Macau (UM), and the Chinese state-owned Laoshan Laboratory, based in Qingdao, China.
One priority will be training, with plans for exchanges between researchers and master's or doctoral students between the center's various laboratories. During the inauguration ceremony, UM Rector Song Yonghua promised to launch joint master's programs between the universities participating in the initiative.
