On the evening of 4 July 2026, the opening of the Music and Dance Performance of the 18th Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries was held at Tangdao 637 Plaza in Xining.
The event, jointly organised by the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao and the People’s Government of Qinghai Province, marked the first time that the Cultural Week had entered a province in western China.
At the opening ceremony, Secretary-General Ji Xianzheng delivered a welcome speech, expressing his hope that Portuguese-speaking Countries would take this opportunity to showcase their unique cultural characteristics and strengthen cultural exchanges with Qinghai.
In his speech, Mr. Chen Yongqin, Vice Mayor of Xining Municipal People’s Government, said that the Cultural Week of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries was being held in Qinghai for the first time under the theme “Lusophony on the Silk Road, Qinghai and Macao Shining Together”. By mobilising the resources of Macao, Qinghai and Beijing, the event aimed to deepen co-operation between Xining and Macao in various areas, including trade, economy and culture. He expressed the hope that, with culture as a bridge and art as a medium, more friends from Portuguese-speaking Countries would come to know Qinghai and its capital, Xining, and jointly write a new chapter in Sino-Lusophone exchanges.
On the evenings of 4 and 5 July, 10 artistic groups from Qinghai, Macao and Portuguese-speaking Countries presented high-quality performances over two consecutive days, blending the traditional and the modern from each region. The performances were warmly received by local residents, with lively interaction between the stage and the audience.
