On 22 May, the China (Shandong) – Portuguese-Speaking Countries International Agricultural Trade and Investment Fair took place at the Complex of the Service Platform for Commercial Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.

In his speech, the Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), Ji Xianzheng, noted that the Secretariat has been developing its work in Macao to support the MSAR Government in continuously consolidating the functions and achievements of the "Service Platform for Commercial Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries". He also mentioned that Shandong Province's total economic volume ranks third in China, within which the total agricultural output value leads the national ranking, and the level of agricultural modernisation as well as international co-operation in this sector are at the forefront of the country. Thus, Shandong and Portuguese-speaking Countries share broad prospects for agricultural co-operation.

The Chairperson of the Shandong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CCPPC), Ge Huijun, pointed out that this event provided a platform for exchange and co-operation between Shandong, Macao and Portuguese-speaking Countries, opening up more efficient channels for deepening close and mutually beneficial co-operation in the agricultural sector. In turn, the Vice-Governor of Shandong, Wen Nuan, emphasised the importance of leveraging the advantages of the Macao Platform, adopting an approach oriented towards businesses' concerns and promoting quantitative and qualitative growth in import trade. He also advocated for agricultural co-operation as a starting point to promote the complementarity of sectoral advantages and the innovation of co-operation models, stimulating the continued and solid development of local economic and commercial co-operation.

This Fair was co-organised by the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Shandong Province, the United Front Work Department of the Shandong Provincial Committee, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Shandong Provincial Committee, and the Department of Commerce of Shandong Province. The event was chaired by the Vice-Governor of Shandong, Wen Nuan, and was attended by the Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the MSAR, the Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the MSAR, diplomats from Portuguese-speaking Countries, as well as representatives of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, agricultural enterprises from Shandong, the General Association of San Tong (Macau) Associations, representatives of governments and associations from Portuguese-speaking Countries, and international buyers. Members of the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) participated in the event and related activities.

Prior to the event, the attending guests visited the "Remarkable Shandong" Quality Characteristic Agricultural Products Exhibition and the Exhibition of Products from Portuguese-speaking Countries, gaining a close understanding of the characteristics of Shandong's quality agricultural products and sectoral advantages.
