Brazil will participate in four international ocean drilling expeditions, said Farid Chemale Junior, an academic at the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, at the Deep Sea Technology Innovation Conference recently held in Sanya, Hainan Province, southern China.
He revealed that Brazil is joining the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP), of which China is one of the main participating countries. Farid Chemale Junior assessed that Brazil and China already maintain in-depth cooperation in ocean exploration in the South Pacific, characterizing this new transoceanic collaboration as a vivid example of South-South cooperation.
The two countries agreed to jointly apply for special cooperation projects in marine science, focusing on key areas such as ocean equipment testing and marine resource development, with the aim of contributing “Sino-Brazilian wisdom” to the global transition to blue energy.
