Recently, a major association of beef importers in China committed to buying deforestation-free Brazilian beef, in an unprecedented move, according to a statement released by the Institute for Forest and Agricultural Management and Certification (Imaflora).
The NGO, which launched a new certification during an industry event in Brasilia, said that 100 importers belonging to the Tianjin Chinese Meat Association have committed to purchasing at least 50,000 tons of certified beef by June 2026, equivalent to 2,500 20-ton containers.
The members of the Chinese association account for 15% of all Chinese beef imports from Brazil, Imaflora said.
