The president of the Association of Municipalities of Santo Antão in Cape Verde, Arlindo Luz, confirmed that the Chinese prefecture of Lijiang is interested in cooperating with Santo Antão and has already expressed its desire to establish a twinning agreement with the ‘island of the mountains’.
The mayor said that the Association of Municipalities of Santo Antão is interested in this cooperation and has already expressed its ‘total availability’ to the Lijiang prefecture to work towards realising this desire.
Armindo Luz said that the other Santo Antão mayors are aware of Lijiang's desire to co-operate with Santo Antão, praising the fact that China is ‘at a different level of development’, which is why Santo Antão has everything to gain from this co-operation.
The next step is to work with the Cape Verdean Ministry of Foreign Affairs to realise twinning between the two regions, according to the president of the Association of Municipalities of Santo Antão.
