The Chinese Ambassador to Portugal, Yang Yirui, recently visited the city of Guimarães, where he met with the Mayor, Ricardo Araújo. The meeting aimed to strengthen institutional relations and identify new opportunities for co-operation between China and the Portuguese municipality.
Yang Yirui highlighted the potential for deepening collaboration in the fields of history, culture, economy and trade, investment, science and technology, including the aerospace sector. The diplomat also indicated that the Embassy would promote existing investment opportunities in Portugal, particularly in Guimarães, among Chinese companies.
Ricardo Araújo considered the visit important for the municipality's international projection and for creating relationships capable of generating opportunities for the territory, its businesses and local institutions. During the meeting, strategic areas such as environment and sustainability, innovation, the economy, culture and heritage were presented.
The Ambassador also visited the José de Guimarães International Centre for the Arts, where he viewed a collection of ancient Chinese art and met local companies with links to China. At the Landscape Laboratory, he learned about work related to Guimarães 26 – European Green Capital and the immersive experience "One City, One Planet", dedicated to sustainability challenges.
