A green hydrogen-powered bus manufactured by Chinese company Higer Bus has entered service on the Rota Monumental in Brasília, providing a concrete example of China-Brazil co-operation in clean mobility, energy transition and technological innovation.

The initiative combines a Chinese-manufactured vehicle with the implementation capacity of Brazilian partners. The project is the result of a partnership among Neoenergia, the Federal District Government and Brazilian company TEVX Motors Group. The bus can carry 71 passengers and has an approximate range of 300 kilometres.

Tatsumi Igarashi, Green Hydrogen Manager at Neoenergia, said that China’s experience demonstrated the viability of the technology in public transport, particularly for heavy vehicles. According to Igarashi, hydrogen-based solutions could complement the electrification of transport in Brazil.

As Brazil seeks to develop its green hydrogen industrial chain, co-operation with Chinese companies could create opportunities not only for the supply of vehicles, but also for technology transfer, local production and the joint development of sustainable transport solutions.
