With the aim of deepening scientific and technological exchange and cooperation between China and Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking countries, promoting the development of the “Centre for Science and Technology Exchange and Cooperation between China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries”, and attracting more outstanding scientific and technological innovation projects to Macao, the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT) held the “2026 Technology and Innovation Competition (Macao) for Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking Countries” on 16 June at the Convention Center of the Macao Science Center.

In his speech, Yau Yun Wah, Director of the Economic and Technological Development Bureau, said that this edition of the competition had been officially renamed the “Technology and Innovation Competition (Macao) for Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking Countries”. He noted that the competition had not only expanded its scope of participation to innovation teams from all Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking countries, but also marked a further enhancement of Macao’s external reach as a “precise connector”.

This edition of the competition continued to adopt the model of “local recommendation, assessment in Macao and implementation in the Greater Bay Area”. More than 70 projects were recommended by nearly 30 incubators and higher education institutions from Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking countries, of which 17 were shortlisted for the final. The projects covered various cutting-edge scientific and technological fields, such as artificial intelligence, biomedicine, the Internet of Things and new materials. First place was awarded to the Brazilian project “Phycolabs”, while second and third places went to “Airway Shield S.L.” and “Complear”, respectively. The winning teams received certificates and cash prizes.
