The Ministry of Communications concluded its mission to China last week with a significant advance in strengthening connectivity options in Brazil, promoting greater competition in the sector and expanding access to quality internet in regions still lacking adequate coverage.

In Shanghai, the Minister of Communications, Frederico de Siqueira Filho, visited SpaceSail, a Chinese low-orbit satellite company expected to begin operations in Brazil later this year.

The company's entry into the Brazilian market is expected to contribute to increasing the supply of satellite internet, reinforcing competition in the sector and accelerating the expansion of connectivity in areas where fibre optics have not yet reached, such as rural communities, remote locations and regions of the Amazon.

The commercial launch of SpaceSail's operations in Brazil was announced during President Lula da Silva's visit to Beijing in 2025. Earlier this year, Brazil's National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) authorised the company to operate in the country. The operating licence provides for an initial phase with up to 324 satellites and is valid until July 2031.
