Mozambique's Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Estêvão Pale, reaffirmed the country's commitment to the sustainable management of natural resources, international scientific co-operation and the development of the blue economy during the opening ceremony of the 6th China-Africa Forum on Marine Science and Technology, recently held in Hangzhou, China, under the theme "Blue Partnership: Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean".
In his speech, the Minister highlighted Mozambique's strategic position in the Indian Ocean and the country's growing role in the global energy transition, supported by its vast reserves of natural gas, critical minerals, graphite, heavy sands and rare earths. He also noted that Mozambique is establishing itself as an emerging actor in both the blue economy and the global energy transition. The Minister also emphasised the importance of managing natural resources using environmentally sustainable technologies, with a view to benefiting present and future generations.
Furthermore, he advocated for the strengthening of co-operation between Mozambique and China in areas such as marine science, ocean governance, environmental monitoring, technological innovation and climate resilience.
