A researcher at the China-Portugal Joint Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence and Public Health Technologies stated in Lisbon that the project is already producing results with an impact on global public health, through the development of various solutions aimed at combating epidemics.

Lara Lopes, Clinical Director of the Hospital of Chinese Medicine in Portugal, indicated that the laboratory has already developed a line of public health products classified as low-cost and simplified operation solutions, aimed primarily at Brazil and the Portuguese-speaking African countries.

The director also highlighted the translation into Portuguese of a clinical manual from Guangzhou's No.8 People's Hospital for Dengue, a document which has a 98% success rate in severe cases and combines diagnostic methods from both Chinese and Western medicine.

Created in December 2024, the laboratory is the result of a partnership between the Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering – Research and Development, Guangzhou Medical University, the Guangzhou National Laboratory, and Macao University of Science and Technology. The project operates under a co-management arrangement, with teams based in Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, and in the Chinese cities of Macao, Guangzhou and Chengdu.
