In a context of growing commercial rapprochement between Brazil and China, the Brazilian state of Maranhão is seeking to consolidate a new phase of its international insertion, focused on attracting investment and strengthening industry. This was the main theme of a meeting held recently at the headquarters of the Federation of Industries of the State of Maranhao in São Luís, which brought together public sector representatives, business leaders and members of the Brazil-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The meeting discussed strategic opportunities to deepen co-operation with the Asian country, including institutional co-ordination, international missions and bilateral business promotion mechanisms.

The participation of the President of the Brazil-China Chamber, Charles Andrew Tang, marked the discussions. Considered a reference in Sino-Brazilian economic relations, Tang highlighted the strategic role of Maranhão in international trade, particularly due to its logistical capacity and its relevance in the supply of raw materials.

According to Tang, the state has favourable conditions to expand its presence in global trade, especially due to its port infrastructure and proximity to important international maritime routes.
