The President of the Republic of Mozambique, Daniel Chapo, concluded his state visit to the People's Republic of China last week, achieving significant results for the country's development. Among the main advances, the guarantee of investment for the construction of a reference surgical centre in Maputo stands out, which is expected to become one of the largest facilities of its kind in Africa.
The initiative is part of an investment package valued at approximately $12 billion, a direct result of the understandings reached in Beijing to boost the Mozambican economy. The creation of this surgical centre is seen as a decisive step towards the modernisation of the Mozambican health system, enabling the strengthening of response capacity in specialised care and raising medical intervention standards in the country. The unit is expected to feature advanced technology and infrastructure that will be a reference at continental level.
In addition to the hospital component, co-operation in the health sector also encompasses technological innovation and continuous training components, considered essential for improving the response to national public health challenges.
