The Government of Cape Verde has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding with China for the implementation of the third phase of the "Safe City" project, an initiative financed by the Chinese Government aimed at strengthening public security in the country.

The agreement was formalised between the Minister of Internal Administration, Paulo Rocha, and the Chinese Ambassador to Cape Verde, Zhang Yang, at a ceremony held at the National Police Command and Control Centre in the city of Praia.

This new phase of the project provides for the expansion of the video surveillance network and the modernisation of urban monitoring technology systems. According to the Cape Verdean Government, the objective is to make public space management more efficient and integrated, reinforcing the capacity for incident prevention and response.

Authorities emphasise that the "Safe City" project stands as one of the main pillars of the national security strategy, contributing to the deepening of bilateral co-operation between Cape Verde and China in the fields of public security and technological innovation.
