In a move that strengthens co-operation between Mozambique and China, the Parliamentary Youth Office (GJP) of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique has initiated a partnership with the Confucius Institute at Eduardo Mondlane University (CI-UEM), with a view to promoting Mandarin training for young deputies.
The meeting, held at the Parliament headquarters in Maputo, aimed to define institutional co-operation mechanisms to enable the teaching of the Chinese language. According to the President of the GJP, Inocêncio Fani, the initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the skills of young parliamentarians.
In turn, the Director of the Confucius Institute, Liu Jichao, expressed full readiness to support the linguistic training of the deputies, emphasising that Mandarin has been gaining relevance internationally. He also highlighted that, in a context of strong Chinese investment in Mozambique, proficiency in the language can facilitate communication and unlock new opportunities.
