Set in the 1970s during the period of Brazil's military dictatorship, the production follows the story of Marcelo, played by Wagner Moura, who returns to his hometown of Recife, trying to leave the past behind and start a new life, only to discover that this task is more difficult than he had imagined.

It won the Critics Choice Award for Best Foreign Language Film and also secured two Golden Globe distinctions: Best Foreign Language Film and Best Actor for Wagner Moura. Additionally, it received four nominations for the 2026 Oscars, including Best Picture, Best International Feature Film, Best Actor and Best Cast.
