The Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Cape Verde, Zhang Yang, recently visited the University of Cape Verde (Uni-CV) in the city of Praia, where he met with Rector José Arlindo Barreto. During the meeting, José Arlindo Barreto expressed profound gratitude for the friendship that China has demonstrated towards Cape Verde and, in particular, towards Uni-CV. He also highlighted the fundamental role of the Confucius Institute, praising the "Chinese Bridge" initiative, which he considered a metaphor for the connection between languages and cultures. As a specialist in Language Sciences, the Rector argued that the learning of other languages should replicate this model, noting that "language conveys culture".
The Ambassador expressed great interest in gaining an in-depth understanding of Uni-CV's structure, with the aim of identifying concrete areas for co-operation. In this regard, he stated that he was fully available to partner with the institution to organise informal discussion forums between May and June, bringing together university leaders, professors and students, without a rigid script, to hear concrete ideas on how China can contribute to the university's development.
