A health fair recently organised at the Cesaltina Ramos School in Achada de Santo António, on Santiago Island, exceeded all organisational expectations, attracting over 500 people — far surpassing the 150 consultations initially planned. The initiative, held as part of International Women's Day celebrations, resulted from a partnership between the Chinese and Overseas Charity Foundation of Cape Verde and the 22nd Chinese medical team.
The event transformed the school premises into a healthcare centre, offering free diagnosis and assistance to the population of Achada de Santo António.
Speaking to the press, José Barbosa, a member of the community organisation, explained that in response to the overwhelming number of registrations, priority was given to women. "We initially planned to benefit 150 people, but the demand was very high. We will prioritise women, especially elderly women in vulnerable situations, since the initiative takes place within the context of 8 March," he justified, praising the strength of Chinese cooperation in the health sector.
