Portuguese-Speaking Countries Imported Record Value of Chinese Goods in 2025

Portuguese-speaking countries imported Chinese goods worth USD 88.1 billion in 2025, representing a year-on-year increase of 3.06% and the highest figure on record, according to official data released on 26 February.


Brazil remains the largest buyer among the Portuguese-speaking countries, despite imports from China having fallen by 0.7% compared with 2024 to USD 71.6 billion, according to figures from China’s Customs Services. By contrast, Portugal, second on the list, purchased goods from China worth USD 7.19 billion, an increase of 17.7%.

In the opposite direction, exports from Portuguese-speaking countries to China declined by 1.4% in 2025 to USD 137.7 billion, the lowest level since 2021.


Despite selling more and buying less, China continues to record a trade deficit with the nine Portuguese-speaking countries, which reached USD 49.6 billion in 2025. Overall, trade between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries totalled USD 225.8 billion, up 0.3% on the previous year.
