Brazil has made its first shipment of DDG to China, consolidating the opening of the Chinese market to corn ethanol co-products. The ship departed on the 14th from the Port of Imbituba, in Santa Catarina, with approximately 62,000 tonnes, in the first shipment sent after the signing of the bilateral health protocol between the two countries.
The operation is the result of work conducted by the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. After the formalisation of the sanitary agreement, the Secretariat of Agricultural Defence began the process of registering, licensing, and inspecting production plants interested in accessing the new market. In total, 13 Brazilian establishments were officially authorised to export DDG to China after technical assessments that verified good manufacturing practices, safety controls, traceability, and other requirements demanded by the Chinese authorities.
The product has been gaining relevance in foreign trade. Brazil, the world's third largest corn producer, exported approximately 791,000 tonnes of DDG in 2024. In the same year, China imported more than US$66 million in products in this category for animal nutrition.
