The first volume of ‘Lume’, the Portuguese edition of the literary magazine Literatura do Povo, was published in Brazil as part of an initiative to promote Chinese literature among Portuguese-speaking countries. The publication, the result of a partnership between the Macao Cultural Sectors Federation and Literatura do Povo magazine, aims to strengthen cultural exchange between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, highlighting Chinese literary works for Portuguese-speaking readers.
The launch of the Portuguese edition comes at a time of intensifying cultural ties between Brazil and China. China and Brazil are celebrating a growing rapprochement not only in the economic and diplomatic spheres, but also in cultural co-operation and education initiatives. The upcoming ‘China-Brazil Culture Year 2026’ is expected to amplify this movement, with a series of events, translations and meetings that place literature, cinema and other artistic expressions at the centre of bilateral dialogue.
The Portuguese edition of Literatura do Povo is seen by organisers and intellectuals as a significant step towards integrating Brazilian artists and readers more deeply into the Chinese literary universe, while contributing to enriching the Portuguese-speaking cultural landscape with voices and perspectives from different parts of Asia.
