Chinese private investments in Angola exceed US$ 20 billion, with emphasis on the trade, agriculture and industry sectors, currently considered strategic areas of strong investment. The information was released by the vice-president of the Angola-China Chamber of Commerce, António Leite, on the sidelines of the Chinese New Year celebrations held on 7 February in the province of Icolo e Bengo.
According to António Leite, China's economic presence in the country has seen sustained growth and progressive diversification. ‘We already have around US$20 billion in private investment in the country, in various sectors. Initially, investments were concentrated in trade and public works, but today the Chinese business community also believes in agriculture, industry and other sectors aligned with Angola's needs,’ he said.
Present at the Lunar New Year celebrations, the president of the Angolan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Vicente Soares, gave a positive assessment of bilateral co-operation, emphasising that the partnership with China has gone beyond diplomacy, contributing to the formation of a national business class and a broad exchange of experiences.
