Inpasa, the largest grain biorefinery in Latin America, said on 3 February that it will make its first shipment of corn DDGS (distillers dried grains with solubles) to China next week. Distillers dried grains with solubles are a by-product of corn ethanol production used for animal feed.

The cargo ship is expected to dock at the port of Imbituba (SC) to transport about 62,000 tonnes of the product to the Chinese market, Inpasa said.

‘Inpasa's operation marks the beginning of Brazilian DDGS exports to China and consolidates a new commercial front between the two countries,’ the company said in a statement. With an annual production of approximately 3.3 million tonnes of DDGS, Inpasa is Brazil's largest exporter of the ingredient.

Brazil authorised the first establishments to export DDGS to China at the end of last year. The authorisation of Brazilian companies offers an alternative to the Chinese.
