On 29 January 2026, the Chinese Ambassador to Portugal, Yang Yirui, met with the President of AICEP, Madalena Oliveira e Silva, and the two exchanged in-depth views on promoting economic and trade co-operation between China and Portugal. 

Ambassador Yang stated that the two countries maintain traditional friendly relations and have a solid foundation for economic and trade co-operation. He expressed his desire for Portugal to participate more actively in events and fairs held in China, so that more Chinese companies can learn about Portugal and invest in the country. 

President Oliveira e Silva warmly praised the enormous successes achieved in China's economic and social development, adding that the Portuguese economy is open and inclusive, and that she hopes to attract more investment from Chinese companies in Portugal, as well as increase the entry of high-quality Portuguese products into the Chinese market.
