Cape Verde has been recognized by the Chinese and Cape Verdean authorities for the results achieved under the framework of the China-FAO South-South Co-operation Project. Launched in September 2023, the initiative has made significant progress in technical capacity building, knowledge transfer, and the adaptation of agriculture to climate change.
During the visit of Cape Verde’s Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Gilberto Silva, to the People’s Republic of China, the Chinese side reaffirmed its commitment to deepening this strategic partnership, regarding the project as a solid foundation for the medium and long term development of Cape Verde’s agricultural sector.
The Minister expressed great satisfaction with the results achieved, underscoring the tangible impact of the co-operation on strengthening the country’s agro-food sector, ensuring food security and advancing sustainable development. He also highlighted the project’s potential to generate long-lasting benefits for Cape Verde.
As emphasized in the press release, this visit — covering the cities of Beijing, Hunan and Shanghai — reinforces Cape Verde’s commitment to consolidating strategic partnerships and promoting a more modern, resilient and sustainable agricultural sector.
