The Chinese government has donated 91 tons of rice to the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD) to support populations affected by cyclones in central and northern Mozambique.

“This donation is of great importance and will strengthen our humanitarian response capacity in the 2025 and 2026 emergency campaigns,” said INGD President Luísa Meque after receiving the donation from China's ambassador to Mozambique, Zheng Xuan, which was recently finalized.

According to INGD, “cooperation between Mozambique and China has already provided various forms of support to the country” in this area, including technical training for Mozambican operators, the construction of prefabricated houses, food donations amounting to 13,000 tons of rice, and training in disaster risk management.

Mozambique is considered one of the countries most severely affected by global climate change, facing cyclical floods and tropical cyclones during the rainy season, but also prolonged periods of severe drought. The cooperation between China and Mozambique is another example for the international community to work together to address environmental change.
