Recently, Ip Kuai Peng, Vice-Rector of the City University of Macau (UCM) and Director of the Institute for Research on Portuguese-speaking Countries, proposed the creation of “language + technology” training programs to “overcome linguistic and professional incompatibilities in scientific cooperation” and further deepen cooperation in specific professional areas.

According to the UCM Vice-Rector, “Macau can serve as a platform for precise business matching between Chinese and Portuguese-speaking enterprises.” He further suggested that Macau should leverage its “institutional advantages” and the national laboratories in the Greater Bay Area to establish interregional think tanks in partnership with renowned universities in Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking countries.

Several academics from other universities also shared their perspectives on the topic. Professor Marta Filipa Simões, from the Macau University of Science and Technology, proposed expanding collaboration with scientific institutions in Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Mozambique, and Portugal.
