The Angolan government signed a US$110 million contract with electronics group Huawei on June 13 in Shenzhen, according to João Baptista Borges, Angola's Minister of Energy and Water.

The agreement includes the installation of technological infrastructure such as servers, fiber optic networks, and advanced customer service and billing systems, with a view to improving energy supply efficiency and expanding access to electricity, especially in urban centers such as Luanda. Huawei, which already has a significant presence in Angola, will be responsible for providing technology and training local staff.

“We need to strengthen our commercial management and customer control capabilities. And it is in this context that this contract with Huawei comes into play,” said the minister at a press conference at the Angolan Consulate in Macau, highlighting that the growth of the country's cities requires the modernization of customer service and billing systems, “We have confidence in Huawei, which has already trained many young Angolans and created important infrastructure in the country.”
