China will implement a visa-free travel policy on a trial basis with five Latin American countries. The announcement was first made by Chinese President Xi Jinping in his opening speech at the Fourth Ministerial Meeting of the China-CELAC Forum.

Confirmation of Brazil's presence in the group came on May 15. Citizens with passports from Argentina, Chile, Peru and Uruguay, who “come to China for business, tourism, visiting relatives and friends, exchange visits or transit”, for a maximum period of 30 days, are also in the visa-free group.

The policy will come into effect on June 1, 2025 and will run until May 31, 2026, according to Lin Jian, spokesman for China's Foreign Ministry. "China will adhere to the high-level opening to the outside world and will introduce more measures to continuously improve the level of facilitation of personnel exchanges with foreign countries," Lin said at the press conference.
