According to the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), Carlos Fávaro, Brazil is close to receiving authorization from the Chinese government to export fish to the Asian country. In an interview with Canal Rural, the president of the Brazilian Association of Aquaculture (PeixeBR), Francisco Medeiros, stated that the opening of the Chinese market to Brazilian fish, in addition to being positive, also represents a business opportunity for by-products from the sector.

China is currently the world's largest producer and exporter of farmed fish. Even so, Medeiros considers the possible opening of trade to be extremely favorable. "There is always the possibility of business with by-products. We believe that, with this opening, we will be able to negotiate fish meal and fish oil, products that we do not usually sell directly to China," he explained.

The president of PeixeBR also highlighted the diversity of Amazonian species that Brazil can offer, such as tambaqui, pirarucu, and pintado, which have the potential to conquer the Chinese market.
