The Municipality of Sorriso, in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso, has signed its first Technical Cooperation Agreement with the China, Brazil and Sorriso Chamber of Commerce and Industry, during the Global Agribusiness Festival (GAFFFF) São Paulo, held on 1 and 2 October. The initiative seeks to deepen cooperation in agribusiness, technology and education.

According to Mayor Alei Fernandes, the agreement marks a new phase in the development of projects and business with Chinese partners. The rapprochement began in October 2025, with a letter of intent to create the chamber of commerce.

One of the main projects under discussion is the establishment of a Chinese technical school at the Luiz Giroletti Technology Park, with projected investment of around 50 million US dollars. The proposal includes secondary technical education, short courses, postgraduate programmes and high-technology laboratories, with capacity for up to 1,200 students.

The initiative also provides for teacher training by the Chinese Government and the participation of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC). The Municipality presents the project as the first Chinese technical school in Latin America.

According to Fernandes, Sorriso is also due to receive a delegation from the Chinese Government later in 2026 to continue the negotiations and seek to turn institutional rapprochement into concrete projects. The cooperation also aims to expand business and investment opportunities in agribusiness, innovation and technology.
