A training seminar on trade and investment facilitation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries recommended stepping up efforts to promote Guinea-Bissau to potential Chinese investors and identify domestic products with the potential to enter the Chinese market.

The seminar was held in Beijing and Guangzhou from 3 to 15 September. It was organised by the Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO), under the co-ordination of China’s Ministry of Commerce. Guinea-Bissau was represented by Bonifácio Malam Sanhá, Director-General of the Guinea News Agency (ANG).

According to Sanhá, the main recommendations included establishing partnerships between Guinean and Chinese businesses, strengthening technical training, improving infrastructure and logistics, and processing cashew nuts, fish and other domestic products locally. Agriculture, fisheries, infrastructure, tourism and industry were identified as priority areas.

The seminar covered international trade, investment policies, industrialisation, e-commerce, the digital economy, agriculture, logistics and innovation. Sanhá said that taking part had helped identify new opportunities for economic co-operation between Guinea-Bissau and China.
