The National Library of São Tomé and Príncipe hosted a cultural event last week, organised by the Confucius Institute to promote Chinese culture and foster exchanges between the two countries.

The event brought together students, teachers and people interested in culture for an afternoon of cultural demonstrations and shared experiences. Participants had the opportunity to learn about Chinese customs, artistic expressions and traditions.

The initiative is part of the cultural co-operation programme between China and São Tomé and Príncipe. As part of this effort, the Confucius Institute has been strengthening Mandarin teaching and promoting Chinese culture in schools and institutions across the country.

Inaugurated in July 2019, the Confucius Institute at the University of São Tomé and Príncipe was established in partnership with Hubei University in China. It is the first of its kind in the country.

The National Library’s leadership welcomed the partnership and expressed its willingness to host similar events in the future, highlighting the institution’s role as a place for meeting and dialogue between cultures.
