Shanghai Silin Special Equipment Co., Ltd., a Chinese company, is considering Brazil’s state of Maranhão as one of the possible locations for its first production facility outside China. The cable and wire manufacturer intends to expand its operations in the Brazilian market.

Company representatives visited the state a few days ago to learn about its infrastructure, logistics and business conditions. The visit included a meeting at the Federation of Industries of the State of Maranhão (FIEMA), facilitated by the Brazil–China Chamber in Maranhão.

The project is at the exploratory stage. The company has not yet decided where to locate the factory and is assessing technical, commercial and production-related aspects before deciding on the investment.

Shanghai Silin produces low- and medium-voltage cables, photovoltaic cables and equipment for the construction, mining, communications and renewable-energy sectors. During the meeting, it presented its production capacity, product lines and international experience.

FIEMA presented the local economic environment and opportunities for co-operation with companies, institutions and public authorities. According to data disclosed at the meeting, in 2025 Maranhão exported about US$1.71 billion to China and imported approximately US$289 million. Soybeans, pulp and ore were among the main exports.

The investment under consideration is intended to meet demand in Brazil and take advantage of the country’s location to support the company’s export strategy.
