According to the latest data released by Eurostat, Portugal's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) stood out in the second quarter of 2026 with a 0.8% quarter-on-quarter rise and year-on-year growth of 2.5%, significantly outperforming the European Union and Eurozone averages. During the same period, Eurozone GDP grew by 0.6% quarter-on-quarter and 1.2% year-on-year; EU GDP grew by 0.7% quarter-on-quarter and 1.4% year-on-year. The annual growth rates for both showed increases compared to the previous quarter. Among the Member States, Ireland led with the largest quarter-on-quarter increase (+10.2%), followed by Slovenia (+1.8%) and Lithuania (+1.7%), while Austria was the only nation to record a decline (-0.1%). By comparison, the United States recorded growth of 0.4% compared to the previous quarter and 2.1% year-over-year. European economic growth was driven primarily by household final consumption expenditure and gross fixed capital formation. However, inventory changes were negative for the European area, and the difference between exports and imports contributed positively in both regions.
