The exhibition “A Glimpse of Chinese Culture” will open on 22 August at São Bento Station on the Porto Metro, where it will remain on display until 12 September. Initially presented in Lisbon, the exhibition marks three years of editorial co-operation between Diário de Notícias and Macao Daily News.

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government and the Macao Sino-Luso Friendship and Cultural Exchange Association, the exhibition brings together content published in the two newspapers’ joint weekly column since September 2023. The initiative introduces Portuguese audiences to Chinese traditions, stories and cultural aspects.

The exhibition showcases curiosities drawn from editions of the weekly column and includes two installations that combine traditional process of newspaper printing with the use of fabric. The works evoke the historical and cultural ties between China and Portugal, from the Silk Road to the maritime connections established through Macao.

The President of the Macau Scientific and Cultural Centre, Carmen Amado Mendes, said that the exhibition gives tangible form to the editorial and cultural exchange developed by the two publications. In turn, Diário de Notícias Director Filipe Alves highlighted the contribution of this collaboration to bringing Portugal and China closer together, as well as Macao’s role as a meeting point between East and West.
