The Chinese government has disbursed $2 million (€1.9 million) to support children affected by Cyclone Idai, which struck central Mozambique in 2019, the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) said.

In order to depict the life stories of Chinese immigrants in Brazil, the Museum of the Person created the project “Visions of the Other: Dialogues between Brazil and China”. The initiative is sponsored by CTG Brasil, a Brazilian subsidiary of China Three Gorges Corporation and one of the country’s power generation leaders.

At the end of July, Cosco Shipping launched the Iberia Sea-Rail Express, which connects the port of Valencia in Spain with Leixões and Bobadela in Portugal by rail. On the 18th of August, another train departed from the Bobadela terminal. Huawei, a Chinese information and communications technology company, is conducting a research and development project with the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), located in Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil. The project will be coordinated by Leandro Michels, professor in the Electrical Engineering Master Program at UFSM and it focuses on the safety and quality of inverters for photovoltaic systems.

On the 15th of August, the Brazilian Association for the Development of Nuclear Activities (ABDAN) received representatives from the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) to discuss the business opportunities in the Latin American nuclear sector. In this way, the main future perspectives in the Brazilian nuclear segment were presented, with the aim of developing a Latin American growth plan for the coming years.

The Mayor of Viseu, Dr. Fernando Ruas, and the Mayor of Taiyuan City, Zhang Xinwei, signed on 17th of August, a letter of intent to establish a friendly relationship between both Portuguese and Chinese cities.

On August 15th, the China-Brazil Innovation Week was inaugurated, which was dedicated to sustainable development. During the week, activities such as the Sustainability Forum, Demo Day and the Forum on Carbon Neutrality stand out

The opening ceremony of Tíbar Port in Timor-Leste built by the China Harbor Engineering Company, is scheduled for the 28th of November. So far, the construction has reached 89% completion.

Curitiba, the capital of Paraná state in Brazil, has just gained the first dealership of BYD, a Chinese brand of premium electric and hybrid cars, inaugurated by the Servopa Group.

The Chinese Embassy in Brazil and the Bank of Brazil Cultural Center have been holding a series of celebrations – including a Chinese culture week with film exhibitions – since 14th of August to commemorate the 48th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Attendees can try on traditional Chinese opera makeup, Beijing Opera costumes, make Chinese lanterns and perform Tai Chi movements.

The Federal University of Goiás (UFG) held an online meeting with the Hebei University of Chinese Medicine (HUCM) on August 15th to talk about the next steps of the partnership between the two institutions.
