In line with the positioning of Macao as a platform for cultural exchange between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, the University of Macau (UM) in recent years has placed an emphasis on admitting postgraduate students from Portuguese-speaking countries.

The University of Brasília (UnB) signed a protocol of intent with the Chinese biotechnology company Xamano Biotech. The agreement sets forth guidelines for the installation of Xamano in the Scientific and Technological Park (PCTec) of UnB as well as the format and terms under which the University and the company propose to create an Integrated Center for Technology and Innovation (CITI).

QJ Motor, the motorbike company belonging to the Geely Group – Chinese car manufacturer that controls brands such as Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, Geely Auto, Lynk & Co and Proton Cars – has officially presented its plan for the Portuguese market in Lisbon.

At a meeting with the Chinese ambassador to Angola, Gong Tao, the Minister of Economy and Planning, Mário Caetano João, expressed Angola’s interest in obtaining experiences from China in the creation and management of free zones and in staff training.

Jointly organized by the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Recife, the Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE) in China and the Confucius Institute of the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), the meeting of the “Forum China – Northeast of Brazil: Studies on the Economic and Social Development of Northeast of Brazil” was held virtually on the 3rd of November.

On the 29th of October, a new Xiaomi Store will open at Madeira Shopping. The brand now covers the entire country with stores from north to south, Azores and Madeira.

On the 28th of October, Chinese company Angelalign announced the purchase of 51% of the operation of Aditek, a Brazilian manufacturer of orthodontic appliances and aligners. The transaction was worth US$ 19.4 million. With the deal, the Chinese company, listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange and valued at around US$ 1.6 billion, will have Aditek as a local player to offer its own aligners.

To celebrate 210 years of Chinese immigration to Brazil, a China-Brazil concert was held on the 30th of October at the Municipal Theater of São Paulo, Brazil, organized by the Experimental Repertoire Orchestra in conjunction with the Asian Cultural Center in São Paulo. Ten Chinese singers and musicians performed four programs with traditional instruments, as well as collaborated with the local orchestra.

Chinese car brand BYD has signed a letter of intent with the State Government of Bahia, Brazil, to manufacture electric cars, buses and trucks at the former Ford plant in Camaçari, which closed in 2021.

Two Chinese medical teams will strengthen the public health systems in Mozambique and Guinea Bissau for a year and a half, the Chinese embassies in the two Portuguese-speaking countries have announced.

The opening ceremony of the 25th Lusofonia Festival took place on the 28th of October, at the Casas da Taipa Amphitheater. Marking the 25th anniversary (Silver Wedding), starting this year, each edition will focus on promoting the characteristic culture of one of the participating Lusophone countries or regions.

The Office of the Commissioner of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the Macao SAR and the Macao SAR Government jointly organized the Youth Exchange Programme between China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries between the 26th and 28th of October.
