Experts and academics from Spain and Brazil offered insights on strengthening global cooperation on blue economy and sustainable finance at a sub-forum of the Pearl Bay 2025 Climate Investment and Financing Conference, held recently in Nansha District, Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, southern China.

The sub-forum, themed “Power of the Sea - Activating the Blue Carbon Momentum to Support a High-Quality Marine Economy,” brought together experts and academics through online participation to discuss ways to promote ocean-related climate investment and financing.

At the secondary venue in Brazil, José Ricardo dos Santos, executive director of LIDE, emphasized that cooperation in the marine economy is essential to deepen the partnership between China and Brazil. Hsia Hua Sheng, an economist at Brazil's Getulio Vargas Foundation, said that China's capital market can help promote the development of sustainable finance in Brazil.

The experts agreed that advancing the blue economy is vital for high-quality development. They advocated improving policy frameworks for blue carbon financing, innovating investment mechanisms, and mobilizing broader social capital to enhance marine ecological protection and sustainable use.
