Recently, the São Miguel City Council received 600,000 escudos donated by the Cape Verde Overseas Chinese Foundation to support the municipality's recovery efforts after the damage caused by heavy rains.

In response to this gesture, the mayor of São Miguel, Herménio Fernandes, expressed his deep gratitude for the donation. According to the mayor, the heavy rains on the 13th and 14th, as well as those on the 23rd and 24th, caused significant damage to municipal infrastructure, the road network, family homes, agricultural plots, and torrential correction works.

Herménio Fernandes stated that, since the early hours after the torrential rains, the municipality has mobilized teams on the ground to restore normality and ensure the functioning of essential services. He also pointed out that there are cases where reconstruction will require technical studies and the mobilization of substantial resources, given the need to ensure more resilient and sustainable infrastructure in a context of extreme phenomena associated with climate change.
