Recently, the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MCTI), Luciana Santos, met with the Chairman of the China Isotope and Radiation Corporation (CIRC), Xiao Yafei, to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the production of radiopharmaceuticals—essential inputs for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and other diseases.
During the meeting, the authorities addressed topics ranging from the expansion of Brazilian radiopharmaceutical production by the Institute of Energy and Nuclear Research (Ipen) to the sharing and transfer of technology between Ipen and Circ, as well as discussing ways to ensure intellectual property protection.
The minister emphasized that “the core of this partnership is joint progress in research and development of new radiopharmaceuticals, conducting clinical trials, industrial transformation, and scaling up production in Brazil.”
Xiao Yafei reported that the partnership could move forward in 2026, with the creation of a subsidiary in Brazil and the formation of a specialized team to make the operation viable.
