The team from the Automation and Robotics Laboratory at the University of Minho (UMinho) is in Beijing, China, to participate in the global soccer competition between teams of humanoid robots, in a 5-on-5 format, the World Humanoid Robot Games 2025.

Portugal will be represented exclusively by this team from Minho. In total, four European teams have been selected for this innovative tournament. Since July 19, the UMinho team has been adjusting its robots' systems. Among the milestones already achieved are obstacle avoidance, goalkeeper mechanisms, and tests with different shooting systems. Currently, the team is focused on perfecting two crucial elements for the robots' performance on the field: communication and location.

"Being in this competition is a privilege and a huge responsibility. We are taking the name of Portugal to the highest level of research in humanoid robotics," the team said on social media. This event not only demonstrated Portugal's innovative capacity in the field of intelligent robotics, but also offered a new opportunity for Sino-Portuguese cooperation in scientific and technological innovation.
