Recently, the Brazilian government announced a new step in expanding exports of animal-origin products to China. For the first time, domestic establishments have been authorised to sell animal protein meals to the Chinese market. The decision is seen as a significant advancement in consolidating sanitary trust between the two countries.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), the authorisation was granted following technical audits and diplomatic negotiations involving sanitary inspection bodies from both nations. The measure was made possible by the agreement signed between the two governments in April this year, during Minister Carlos Fávaro’s visit to China.

For Brazil, China’s trust in this type of product — which requires strict sanitary control — may also pave the way for new agreements in other areas of agribusiness. In a global context of trade uncertainties, Brazil–China cooperation in the agri-food sector continues to serve as an example of pragmatism and mutual benefit.
