Huawei to develop first phase of Cape Verde’s surveillance system

Chinese telecommunications and networking equipment company Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. has signed a contract with the Cape Verde government to develop the first phase of the Safe City project, the Inforpress news agency reports.

Estimated at US$20 million, the project will create a security management system with video surveillance cameras, a command centre and a control centre.

The contract signed last week includes the construction of the command centre, the installation of a video surveillance system, and a system of alerts and communication.

The scheme is due to start operating by January in the capital, Praia.

Cape Verde and China are expanding bilateral ties in tourism, infrastructure and human resources development.
